Default Homemade Firesteel Companions

I make these & keep them with my firesteels.
It has been flooding down here in Mississippi, and wet or not, these will start a fire if you have no dry tinder!

To make I cut my "Fat lighter" into a bar, drill a lanyard hole, and take some "Bailing" rope, tie it, and dip it in Melted wax.

To start

1.Shave your lighter

2.Un-ravel a piece of your rope (notice the wax!)

3. Hit it with your firesteel. (It ignites unbelievably easy, even wet, & burns long)

4. Light you "Fat Lighter

5. Light your wood!

6. Put out yor rope, you can hardly tell it is used, and you can re-use it many times.

I think this is the perfect companion to a firesteel, especially in wet conditions!

What a neat setup. Very clever. I always like experimenting with different fire starters. I'm going to give this one a try. Thanks for sharing your technique.

Very nice set up. I did similar with so fat wood but it is kina sticky/smelly to keep in my pack unless it is in a ziplock bag....I was thinking of coating it with something.

The jute twine with wax is something I have been meaning to try out.
